6 Phrases From the Disability World That Really Grind My Gears

It’s likely you’ve heard all the fuss about the usual suspects like “special needs”, “differently abled”, and “wheelchair bound” and I totally agree with most other disabled people’s assessments when it comes to all the stuff invented and cherished by certain able-bodied neurotypical people for the purposes of their own microaggressive circle jerks. Here, I bring you some of what seem to be some of the less griped about sayings and why they hold such a special place in the flaming landfill of my heart on my sleeve. Before anybody comes at me for whatever blindspot they might notice in what follows, I would like to add the disclaimer that the feelings I am about to express are totally colored in some way by their painful friction with my specific experiences and that context frequently plays an important role in demoting the following phrases within my inner emotional hierarchy. With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if some people found my feelings on the subjects to come at least somewhat relatable. Let the roast begin.
