At least from the client's point of view, I've encountered multiple anecdotes where they said that the therapist gaslit them and always sided with their parents in the end. I'd love to see therapists' handling of the parent-child power imbalance studied or know if you know of any more rigorous inquiries. While this whole thing wasn't an issue for my parents, I've seen a few therapists myself who were violating the most basic rules, such as maintaining confidentiality or not keeping basic boundaries, so I wasn't surprised to find out that there are those out there whose lack of ethics shows up elsewhere.
