I was somehow "gifted" yet never good enough at timed tests to get into the official GATE program despite eventually skipping two grades. My diagnosis was delayed in part by things like my sound sensitivity being written off as signs of intelligence or "overexcitabilities". Even though presumably, I've got several decades left, I find it very hard to shake this highly conditioned feeling that everyone is relying on me to "save the world" and that anything less means I have served no purpose.
