To add to what others are saying, the other problem is that some cis women and non-binary folks are inevitably going to get caught up in this drama. One of my great aunts, who is a cis butch lesbian, gets sir'd all the time. As a non-binary person who is striving to look androgynous, though it is slowly getting better with the addition of ever more neutral facilities, I've been questioned, even told I do not belong in both men's and women's facilities, even when I was "pre-everything" and hadn't yet started HRT or gotten top surgery. I don't owe a single person masculinity or femininity.

I am lucky that both of the US states I spend the most time in have laws that protect one's right to exist in whatever bathroom they find themself in and require all single-occupancy facilities to be neutral. What the conservatives occupying spaces like Fox News really want is for us to either shut up and look the utmost gender-conforming based on our chromosomes (or genitals some doctor chose for you if you’re intersex) or die. We will never win their approval just by trying to fit within their arbitrarily-defined cisheteronormative standards and throwing under the bus our counterparts who don't.
