5 Things Autism Parents Could Learn from My Parents

Providing an example from an adult offspring’s perspective

Although there are many things I like and love about my parents, they definitely aren’t perfect by any means and there are some things I would try to do differently should I one day decide to raise kids. They have also spent years learning (and still are) about and making mistakes when it came to my (and their) disabilities. However, whether it be parents who are involved in my local developmental disability grassroots movements or the relatively anonymous keyboard warriors on social media, I have noticed some fairly common themes.

I have also discussed with them on multiple occasions how their views regarding me appear to be unpopular among (at least the loudest of them) other parents of autistic children and in most cases, they were nothing short of shocked by what other parents were thinking. So let’s get into some things I think they’ve done right.
