Starting at roughly the age of 10, I first entered the mental health industrial complex, which eventually entailed trials of several different psychiatric medications. Soon, I started to envy people, such as my dad and some of my friends, who were able to stick to one psychiatrist for years and quickly find regimens that acted somewhat like magical silver bullets. This was my first psychiatric medication. I had gone to my GP for what to me at the time, seemed like worsening memory problems, who in turn referred me to a neurologist. After the neurologist conducted some basic tests, she concluded that I was not only “too smart for autism”, but that I ought to try out an antidepressant. She recommended that I start with half of the lowest dose available and titrate up from there.
